I've done what I thought was necessary to establish the connection between the (client) Airport Express connected remotely to my stereo system.... and the router which is wired via an ethernet port to my desktop computer. Cannot seem to make the connection.
I haven't used the Airport Express yet (although I'm thinking heavily about it so I don't have to snake cables from my iMac downstairs to my stereo), so I could be wrong, but... you would want to set your AE in bridge mode. If you leave it in router mode, it will try to act as your primary access point. Instead, you want it to act as a wireless client so it can stream your music to itself.
I'm not sure this stuff is going to be covered in the Dummies book. I didn't look at it to see how well it covers wireless.
If you have specific questions getting your Airport Express to work, you may want to check Apple's discussion boards on their web site.
