Hi Chris: You were right - I did not do the test absolutely simultaneously!
And I seem to have found the problem but I first I checked out: >2: Something else is running on the laptop that is sucking up bandwidth No other browser is open - only CE. I had already turned off Foxmarks, which syncs the bookmarks on the two machines in the background. I also use an app called Drop Copy - which is open all the time - uses the ethernet connection (via the modem/router) to send files back and forth easily, but it is still running. > >3: Reboot your router and hub (if there is also one) and see if the >speed returns. Particularly, with inexpensive off the shelf soho >routers as most people have, they can get screwed up and start to >cause speed problems or completely drop connections. I am using a modem/router (a GNet) made by a small local Canadian company. It wasn't cheap! I rebooted it (via the software) and got a slightly higher connection (2500 mbps). Then tried testing each machine back to back to back (over and over) and got a huge variety of speeds on the desktop (1340 > 3915 mbps) and the laptop (1315 >3560 mbps) which finally came up to speed. So, I guess my connection is terribly inconsistent (dirty lines?) and often very slow on both machines - I just use the laptop to connect more so that is where I noticed it. Thanks for troubleshooting, Cheers, Tannis ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
