I'd guess it has something to do with the servers on the other end of the line... and not your laptop or desktiop. I have a DSL line capable of 6000 kBit/second. This oughta give me download speeds of around 600 kByte/second. However, even with this DSL capacity I often experience download speeds of around 100 kByte/second or around 200 kByte/second. But this is soleley a thing of the sever I download from. Some servers are just slow or overcrowded...
