In contrast the Emailchemy app from WierdKid.com is fab! It does read

than an hour. No problems. Totally worth it if you ask me.

Put me down as another satisfied Emailchemy customer. Last week I made the reluctant switch from Emailer to Apple Mail and Emailchemy converted my 24,000 record mail database from 50 folders, without a flaw.

Now, with Mail, I am enjoying:

1. Better integration with other Apple applications (Address Book, iSync). I can synchronise my contact information with my phone and PDA.

2. Multi-threaded downloads. Mail downloads from multiple accounts at the same time. No more waiting for one account to respond/time out, before moving onto the next mail server.

3. A neat Get Info command (from the popup menu on the bottom status bar), which shows the mail still sitting on the server.

4. Most important. A native OS X application. No more Classic crashes. I'm working on a laptop, sometimes with an external monitor, sometimes not. Emailer had a nasty habit of crashing, just when it was most inconvenient, i.e. just after I had typed an epic email, but hadn't saved it!

Life isn't all rosy though. I encountered a nasty Mail crash, which almost caused me to go back to Emailer. Fortunately, Michael Tsai, the developer of SpamSieve, managed to figure out that it was due to a Mail rule, involving a smart Address Book group (and nothing to do with the latest version of SpamSieve (much recommended BTW).

I still miss Emailer though, particularly the keystrokes command ] and alt command ], to move to the next message (and delete the current message), whilst viewing in a separate window. But I decided to face up to reality and move on. Apple Mail is not such a bad application after all...
