If you follow the link for the previous blog entry, it talks about
the history of the Emailer-Talk list and its revolt.
It seems our regular off-topic-ness is actually totally on-topic
for our beloved little list (the "Miss Vicki" incident occurred
before I joined the list, although from their time line and my
memories, probably not too long before I did so, as I think I
joined in 1999).

I was around during the Miss Vicki days but I don't recall that big a
hullaballoo. My memory is never very good, but it seems that the
incident touched deeply with some. (Could it have been a sexist
reaction? Tastes like it.)
My favorite lists are those that actually stay on topic - I am on two
PowerBook/MacBook lists, one of which keeps things very inline, so a
lot of technical knowledge flows. The other tries to maintain
control, but twice a year or so you get someone who tries to
challenge the list nannies with their posts (chaffing against bottom
posting and continuing on topics that had been "closed"). They are
usually quickly dealt with off list and we continue on.
I've been on and off the Emailer list for years (more off the past
3). I like to see that there is still a group of Emailer enthusiasts
out there (my - I did love Emailer!), though I've never come to this
list or any email list for "community".
