Chris: Thanks much for your reply...
As you could probably tell, I'm brand new to anything but Emailer and my 'lifelong' dialup arrangement. >To get to the SMTP settings you need >to click the Server Settings button that is below the SMTP Server >address field. From there you can set authentication and alter the >port. I'd check to see if authentication is turned on before trying >anything else. I had another look at Mail.app's prefs and found the Server Settings option. >Also, since you mention that SMTP is in the address, but are looking >at POP info, I'd double check that you have the other account >settings correct. I bet if you check your ISPs support pages, they >will have info on how to configure Apple's Mail to work with their >servers. Yes... I've now found the basics at my ISP's support site. I guess I just drew a blank at the port blocking and didn't have a clue. I think (that is, I hope) I can sort it out, but I won't be back to work again to test until next week. I'll report back then in case it may help anyone else. You probably saved me from making (random) changes to the prefs that it would have taken me forever to put right again. Thanks very much for your time.
