When I try think about the idea of eMailer becoming Outlook Express ... I can't shake the image of Daddy taking a photo of Mommy on the rim of the Grand Canyon. Looking through the viewfinder, composing the picture, he keeps asking her to take a step back, and another step back, just one more step and it will be perfect. Odd - she suddenly disappeared from the viewfinder. That's Outlook Express.

That's not entirely accurate.

Emailer was killed off and replaced by an existing product, Outlook Express for Mac, for the default email client. A chunk of the Claris developers when Claris was closed down were hired by MS for the Mac Business Unit. Some of the key developers of Emailer (notably Jud Spencer), wrote Entourage.

But neither Outlook Express, nor Entourage were ever previously Emailer. Entourage was at least written from the ground up by some of the Emailer developers so you can consider it to be a bit of a descendant of Emailer.
