Sr. Network Engineer Harrisburg, PA 5 year contract Position Description The Senior Network Engineer is a member of a network operations team in Harrisburg, Pa. The team's primary responsibility is the management of a Cisco network infrastructure supporting a large web application hosting environment and related disaster recovery sites. The hosting environment comprises 500 Wintel servers and 200 Web-facing applications and continues to grow. It is widely recognized for its innovative use of the latest technologies from Microsoft, Cisco and CheckPoint. The senior network engineer: o Provides troubleshooting and maintenance services for a LAN/MAN/WAN network infrastructure; o Reviews, tests and executes configuration tasks that enhance reliability and redundancy, increase bandwidth, improve traffic flow, and ensures the maximum availability of the network infrastructure; o Designs and configures settings for switches and routers in multi-protocol inter-networks; o Carries out performance, security monitoring, and documentation of the relevant network segments to ensure data integrity and environmental safety; o Assists customers with determining their requirements for network performance, security, capacity and scalability; o Provides high-level design services for inter-network architecture, which could include LANs, routed and switched WANs, and remote access networks o Conducts network baselines and makes necessary recommendations. Certification: o Certified Cisco Networking Professional (Required) o Certified Cisco Design Professional (Required) o Checkpoint Certified Security Administrator (Required) o CISSP (Preferred but not required) o If the candidate does not have any one of the three required certifications, he/she must commit to obtaining it within three months of starting work on this project. Baseline Skills The senior network engineer has the following baseline skills: o Knowledge and experience with networking environments, including LAN and WAN environments, use and management of firewalls, VPN, and dial-up and/or remote users; o Knowledge and experience with installing and configuring Cisco network equipment in multiprotocol internetworks using LAN and WAN interfaces; o Knowledge of and experience implementing Cisco specific technologies including access-control lists, pvlans, and policy routing o Knowledge of Cisco CSS/CSM load balancing hardware o Knowledge and experience in network security o Knowledge and experience in Checkpoint NG and Cluster XL o Knowledge and experience in CISCO FWSM/PIX/ASDM o Knowledge and experience with distributed sniffers and sniffer watch/NPO Visualizer. o Knowledge and experience with network management software for monitoring complex networks o Knowledge and experience in identifying, diagnosing, troubleshooting and resolving potential and actual performance, hardware and software problems, and troubleshooting in large networked environments; o Knowledge of Server hardware troubleshooting and repair. o Strong communications and customer service skills o Knowledge and experience in ATM networked environments (Preferred but not required). Public sector experience is an advantage but not a requirement.
