Thanks to Neil and Andre for the prompt reply - I am almost decided on
Embperl though I am not sure when I will do the actual migration :).

As for Neil's query I was also perplexed as to where ePerl landed up and
I was surprised to find reference to it in 

http://perl.apache.org/products.html

Anyway the home page as given there is 

http://www.engelschall.com/sw/eperl/

I can't gurantee the validity of my data but I sort of got a 3-4 times
faster processing of Perl embeded pages with embperl compared to ePerl.
