quick embed perl Q

this was probably discussed previously, but why wasn't an xml definition
not used ie:

<?perl
  # perl code here
?>

I dunno... [- -] and [$ $] seemed a little wierd to me... i'm not on the
mailing list but if you have a response e-mail me directly...

otherwise, this stuff looks pretty cool!
