You  mean, "If a browser supporting layers is already requirement". 
And of course you need to check it against 
Netscape/Mozilla/IEWin/IEMac/Opera/....

Do you mean have Embperl intercept the sql command?  (I hope, I 
wouldn't really want to give the end user the ability to execute 
arbitrary SQL on my server.)
