So far so good.

I decided that all the bits of magnetic grit were either in the oil,
in the oil filter, in the bottom of the sump or stuck somewhere out of
the way. I dropped the sump, changed the oil (twice) and picked off
all the bits I could see. (that drum is geared direct to the crank, it
couldn't be more "inside" the engine). It seemed the most pragmatic
approach given the cost (and time) for a complete engine strip and the
going rate for 2004 R1 engines that _don't_ have 60,000 miles on the
clock.

It was about 10,000 miles ago.
