ok, boost.python is now autoconf'd as well: 
http://git.mah.priv.at/gitweb/emc2-dev.git/shortlog/refs/heads/config-boost

it now fails on hardy and lucid with 'configure: error: boost::python is 
required to build EMC2' if libboost-python-dev isnt installed

this adapted net culling seems to be a bit of an overlap with Seb's first step, 
but it works ok on hardy and lucid for me

do you think I should push this?

the buildbot issue I still dont get
