I'm looking for advise...
I'm trying to setup a Xenarc 8" touchscreen with Ubuntu 10.04 so I can
use it on a LinuxCNC project.

This touch screen, and many others from China and Taiwan use a chipset
and components made by this company:
http://home.eeti.com.tw/web20/eg/Touch_Division.html

The touch screen interface is easily recognized by "eGalax" in all of
the id messages and USB device lists.

I downloaded the latest driver from here:
http://210.64.17.162/web20/eGalaxTouchDriver/linuxDriver.htm

The driver works well - but it has a bug. On startup, with logon set
so a user is automatically logged on, the desktop comes up and touch
screen will not function.

If I plug in a mouse and log off and then back on, the touch screen
works fine. Disabling or enabling the password on logon, makes no
difference.

Having to plug in a mouse and keyboard to get the touch screen to work
defeats the purpose of having a touch screen in the first place.

I'd rather use an open source driver for this touch screen, but 10.04 is
known to have some touch screen issues and this touch screen chip set
has real problems with the available linux touch drivers for 10.04.

I have been conversing with the eeti.com company in Taiwan for the last
3 days and I don't think I am getting anywhere yet.

I've scoured the web looking for solutions and have come up empty -
however there are a lot of reports of problems with this screen touch
interface and 10.04 using the open source drivers.

At this point, I am looking for a work around.

Is there a way that the system could run a script after the initial auto
logon to log the user out and then back in?

That would probably get around this driver issue.

Any other ideas??

Thanks,

Dave Cole (Dave911 on the IRC)
