I am an old hand at that and have been using my own script to do a full install of everything but the grub editing for years, last build was a 2.6.38-8 with bfs patches on a pclos install. I expect I can probably just copy that src kit across from the old drive, likely when I get back from NY, we're going up to the nieces dairy farm for about 3 days in the morning. Dee's older sis turned 85 a few days ago & we've been waiting for dry weather, its about a 9 hour drive from here. But then I'd have to reboot to this kernel to run linuxcnc & see if my gcode actually works. :( FWIW, the bfs patches are reported to slow the systems by 1 or 2 percent, but they sure give you back a very responsive desktop compared to cfs. > Linux > will tolerate many kernel builds on the same system, I think my desktop > probably has a couple dozen by now.
