Fair enough.  There are some errors that the Gentoo system collects and 
says something about.  and at 3am I was needing to get some sleep and 
knew that I might not get to this any time soon.  I'm running gcc 
(Gentoo 4.6.3 p1.6, pie-0.5.2).  I could update to 4.7.2 if that is 
recommended.

BTW, I finally got linuxcnc built and installed, but it does not run 
yet.  I'll post the ebuild in a moment so that others can take a poke at 
it.  It is unlikely that I will be able to get back to poking at this 
for days if not many weeks.
