It's curious how the current microelectronic economy works. First, they
get under the price of the BeagleBoard by nearly 40 percent by throwing
out features to create the BeagleBone. Then they add back features to
the BeagleBone and reduce the price some more. Clearly, the RPi sales
numbers have affected these guys (neither side claims to be in it for
the money but obviously both crave the street cred).

For 30 years we had the relative stability of the PC as the target
application to focus the evolution of x86 CPUs and their surrounding
technology (notably, the interfaces). In the past 5 years, it's been the
laptop/notebook/HTPC market that has focused their evolution (and the
interfaces have suffered).

The evolution of ARM has been much more diffuse. Smartphones and
embedded applications certainly became a big factor, but the rapid
evolution of SBCs like Beagles, RPis, and all the others look like
attempts to find a sweetspot without a shared definition of a target
market (interfaces? what interfaces? here's some gpio bits to twiddle.).

These are exciting times for tech junkies like me who accumulate one of
everything, but the turbulent situation must give heartburn for those
trying to realize a stable product.

Can't wait to see the product itself and not just the teaser
announcement of a product.

Regards,
Kent
