I have just had my own 2AM experience. Last night I started LinuxCNC on this machine from a remote host and by this morning I'd forgotten it was still running. The "exited with 1" message was a cryptic way of telling me this.
I just ran the mux test again and it still fails, this time with the message you anticipated, namely "result" differs from "expected". I'll email you the result and stderr files privately.
