This was apparently my fault, because mine was the first commit after the lost commits. I believe I've restored them by merging the lost commit into master branch. If that's not the case, let me know.
Michael H. mentioned the possibility of using the reflog on the server. By default, reflogs aren't enabled on the server side, but Chris R. made a change that should enable it now, giving us an additional audit trail the next time something like this happens.
