Yes, I did it right.
./configure -a
successfully configured for 'Ubuntu-10.04'-'2.6.32-122-rtai'..

and the result of
./configure --enable-run-in-place
is the same:
checking for glBegin in -lGL... no
configure: error: Required GL library missing.  Install it, or specify 
--disable-python to skip the parts of LinuxCNC that depend on Python
