I am, with my little bitty oar here, in favor of the status we have now if 
that is what it takes to make the hal show config with its editing 
abilities to work.  AIUI, changing that to WO status would also disable the 
at_pid, something I intend to see if it can make things work even better 
once I get a SPINx1 installed to drive my lathe spindle.
