I can't say about the RT-related issues with Ubuntu 12.04,
but for
general use, it works VERY well. I ran into a lot of
X-related problems
with 10.04, such as odd LCD screen resolutions could not be made
to work. Other than this X stuff, 10.04 was quite OK.
12.04 works
MUCH better in that regard, supporting every LCD I've tried.
There is a nasty problem with the Unity window manager, I just
couldn't get it to work like **I** wanted. So, I made it
use the
gnome-classic manager, but you have to hack one file to increase
the window borders so you can stretch windows. (By default,
the borders
are ONE pixel wide, and VERY hard to grab with the cursor.)
Otherwise, it works very well.

There's no need to hop on the bleeding edge of new software
releases. I thank the crazies who have to have the latest,
as they
are the ones who wring all the bugs out. By the time I get
around
to a new OS, all the bugs and fixes are well-documented, all you
need is a couple keywords and a Google search turns up the
steps to fix it.
