If you look at my Lathe macros there is code in there that stores values to file at exit. (not quite the same as you describe). You can have default values for controls as properties of the controls themselves (though I think they live in the associated "adjustment" rather than the control. At first I hated the separate "adjustment" entity but in practice it is useful for having different controls "echo" each other. > 3.
