I can say for sure that there would never be any more than one offset in use
at any given time. They may use different offsets on the same tool in the
same program, example, you have a shaft you are turning that has 4 different
diameters on it, you can use the same tool to run the whole shaft, and use a
different assignable offset for each different diameter. It makes for
finishing a large part down to very tight tolerances a much easier task.
