It seems the whole point of SSH (Secure SHell) is to encrypt data. I seem to recall the reason for tunneling is to get the data through SSH. Which makes me think one could dispense with SSH and tunneling. I also seem to recall an NML file that could route NML traffic to a remote IP address.
