It was ghosted, presumably by the lack of any usable keyboard.

With the matchstick-keyboard, I did finally find the file selector, but
then found that I had been working on files that actually lived on The
Little Monster via haveing them all mounted over an sshfs network. The
net result is that on this machine I have not a single file that I can
load and run on a lathe.

Without having the matchbox-keyboard, no keyboard input is accepted,
hitting a key gets a beep, and an abort message on the terminal screen
it was launched from. There is no touch screen facility on this
machine.

But I just now did figure out how to navigate the file system here, and
load a file I just used a couple weeks ago to make the bellows nipples
for the bellows that cover the 1.5 meter z screw. I removed the
matchbox-keyboard from this system and now this keyboard is accepted. I
even edited that file to make it run from scratch, and its running now.

Why it would not use this keyboard before, I have no clue. But it appears
to be working now. One thing I do note is that there is no "file
properties" report, containing the number of lines and an heavily fudged
estimate of run time, like axis has. Or did I not click on the right
button?

The next file I loaded was a boring job, really needing a default tool
orientation of the tool image rotated 180 degrees. But axis has the same
problem. Used to it, no biggie.

I think I will like this, and will use it on the Sheldon 11x36 I am
cnc'ing. One last motor to get mounted and measured for belts I'll have
to order, an encoder on the spindle to finish up, hide the computer and
vfd on a shelf under the drawers, figure out how to keep around 4 feet
of big cable chain to the carriage from being damaged by hot swarf, and
where to put the monitor, mouse and keyboard so they might stand a
snowballs chance in hell of staying swarf jam free for a few minutes. I
can, around these machines, see a definite advantage to touch screens.
No cracks for swarf to jam a key, usually down. :(

Thank you Niemand Sonst.
