I was hoping that some of the main developers would chime in 
with a "smell test" on our logic.  Yes, option 3 is great, 
as the changes to the code are TINY.  To get it to compile 
two versions with a #define requires some hacking on the 
make system, which is always a big hassle.  I think I'm 
going to need some help with that, as I seem to recall there 
has been a bit of reorganization of the whole make system 
since I last added a module, which has been a LONG time.
