Emacs is a "heavyweight" editor. It pulls in so many language support libraries that it takes a long time to load. It used to take a whole minute on my CNC computer a long time ago. That one was very short on memory, but was good enough for the old EMC2. Much better now, but still a few seconds delay to start.

And clicking "Edit G-code" and having nothing happen is not good.

Hmm, maybe during install the script could look for what editors are actually installed and select one of them to be used by the Edit button.
