I'm trying to get the source for version 2.6.0~pre
I tried.
git checkout tags/v2.6-pre0
but the VERSION file shows 2.5.0~pre
output.
> git checkout tags/v2.6.0-pre0

You are in 'detached HEAD' state. You can look around, make experimental
changes and commit them, and you can discard any commits you make in this
state without impacting any branches by performing another checkout.
If you want to create a new branch to retain commits you create, you may
do so (now or later) by using -b with the checkout command again. Example:
git checkout -b new_branch_name
HEAD is now at 70f2237... Merge branch 'v2.5_branch'
I can find when the change was made in the git log, but how do I find the
right tag or branch.?
git log.
