On another list, the finger has been pointed at the compiler, gcc 8.3 
uses a certain sse instruction to build rtai and it crashes, but gcc 6.x 
doesn't and rtai doesn't crash.  How valid that claim is I haven't a 
clue. But it would seem to be worth checking out.  sse/sse2 family 
instructions seemingly are not legal in kernel code. Or something like 
that.
