I think that it is a pity that it only works in XY. However I have never used the feature and don't know how often it is used. I don't believe that any CAM packages know how to use it. If you were going to do this, then I feel that adding UV would also be useful. There is a sub-set of users that use XY/UV hot wire cutters to make airfoils who might, possibly, want to use Nurbs.
