For the G70-G72, you could consider backporting PR #2881. This is currently in master and could be backported to 2.9 to fix issue #2844. You could also consider PR #2808, handles return value if pthreads fails, haven't had any response on this PR. Can update it if you don't like how it is now, this would fix issue #2656.
