that overflow typically doesn't happen in the HAL layer, there you want
to deal with scaled quantities like a length or an angle.

if you look at the definition of the floating point format, you will
see that it can store integers from -2^53 to 2^53 exactly (+-9e15
roughly or 9000km in nm-resolution).
