This question (and this type of question has been around for a long
time)... This is similar to the question as to whether your equipment contains
any PCB's (in transformers and capacitors) or the question as to whether you
equipment contains any Hg (Mercury) (in batteries or switches - such as is
commonly used on your furnace thermostat to maintain your temperature)... The
purpose of these questions is to restrict the use of certain materials or
substances for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it is technical - submarines and
spacecraft use Pt (Platinum) based oxygen replenishers which are ruined by a
small amount of Hg on them... Other times it is political - for protection of
the environment or whatever.
Nick R has given some good input as to specific uses of radioactive
materials; I have given other examples above...
In any case... know thy construction details... your inquirer is asking
for a Declaration that you meet their particular requirement in order to make
the sale legal... Don't nod in agreement (and sign a letter of compliance)
unless you know for sure... These are not casual requests...
