To automotive equipment essentially the Automotive Directive applies. It is a directive very specific about the standards to apply. Its reference is 95/54/EEC
It is in force since jan 96. Mandatory from Oct,1 2002. It requires emission AND immunity testing for all equipment but non-critical to the control of a vehicle (safety related). The latter require emission testing only. You will need a competent body for approval, after which the E-mark must be applied. (not the ce-mark though) Technical Construction File route. Until oct 2002 one may also opt for the EMC-directive, but then no guarantee can be given that all European states accept the device for vehicle mounting. Only application of the e-mark will guarantee that. We can perform the required tests for small electronic assemblies ESA's , but not for cars as a whole.
