Stewart, here are copies of the LVD and EMC Directives that I picked up off of the web somewhere (??). The copyright notice at the beginning does state that they are distributable, courtesy of Mr. Nick Rouse, provided that they are not modified (please read). I think that some 'Informative Annexes' with lists of 'EN' standards, the names and EEC agencies and the odd illustration are missing, but the text is more or less complete.
Could you please post the EMC Directive Guidelines you mentioned (if complete) or where I might find them?? Note that these Directives essentially only say that "thou shalt produce a safe product that does not cause nor is it or is susceptible to electromagnetic interference". You must apply product specific and/or generic standards to show that you are appropriately compliant, and declare conformity to those as well. For example, the ITE Safety Standard, EN60950 (if appropriate), and the Generic Emissions and Immunity Standards EN50081-1 and 2 and EN50082-1 and 2. These (-the latter), in turn call up Emissions and Immunity TEST Standards, such as EN50011, 22 and the EN61000-4-x Series, respectively, which tell you exactly what tests you need to do. Simple, right? In Compliance Assessment Seminars I hold for local Industry, I present this as a pyramid, with the Directives at the tip, and the actual test standards at the (very wide) base. Sorry for the extra ramblings, but I hope this helps!! Regards, Rob Stirling, P.Eng.
