List-Post: emc-pstc@listserv.ieee.org Date: June 23, 1998 Time: 7:00 p.m. Topic: Evaluation of Creepages and Clearances in Telecommunications Circuits Speaker: Mr. Peter Tarver Location: Hewlett Packard, 19447 Prunridge Ave. Cupertino CA, Bldg. 48, Oakroom PRESENTATION: Mr. Peter Tarver, will use the UL 1950/CSA 950 BiNational Standard as the primary reference in his evaluation of creepages and clearances in telecommunications circuits. As a natural consequence, all harmonized 950 based standards that include A4 will fall into line with the program. PRESENTER BACKGROUND: Peter earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from CSU Fresno in 1984, joining UL in September of that year. Peter's early work at UL included evaluations of a wide range of transformers, power distribution and circuit protection devices, and household audio equipment. After a stint with plastics and printed wiring boards, Peter began working with telephone equipment and ITE in 1989, quickly becoming the UL Santa Clara Office's Designated Engineer for UL 1459 (the Standard for Telephone Equipment). Peter also was among the original members of the UL 1950 Practical Applications Committee, helped refine UL's requirements for liquid handling systems in ITE and was responsible for training UL's ITE engineers on Clause 6 when introduced with the Second Edition of UL 1950. Joining Nortel late in 1994, Peter has helped acquire and maintain global safety certifications for Nortel products and gaining laboratory accreditations for the Mission Park Homologation Engineering Dept. Peter also has recently accepted an invitation as an attending member of UL's Subject 1950 Industry Advisory Conference.
