Just a follow-up after some asking around. Don't know if anyone's interested.
A standard pole pig has a 167KVA or 167KVA/240V ~ 695 amp capacity. The max 600 amp estimate was probably very close to reality. But that's for something up on the pole. For heavier currents, the electrical company will have to mount something on the ground and given the correct amount of money, would be glad to install it for you. I'm being told the complete range of street voltages here in the colonies is something like 2.4Kv to 24Kv, but that the 8Kv to 14Kv range is more common.
