Yes, I've seen 10K/sec data transfers with my modem too but only on short bursts and usually with ftp connections. Otherwise, for typical downloading from the WWW, I rarely encounter transfer rates of more than 5 K/sec which translates to about 40 kbps- quite acceptable. According to my ISP, mauufacturers limit the speed of 56 Kbps modems to about 50 Kbps in order to reduce emissions. Anyone here care to comment?
