There is discussion within our company about removing power switches from our newer products. The current standard allows us to do this as they can be switched on and off via a rear panel comms bus connection (ie data link). My specific questions are: a) will the 7th draft allow us to do this? b) will the 7th draft remove the anomaly that requires a product to have a mechanical switch unless it has a data link or timer function? I have always thought this to be crazy, either all products should have switches or none at all. For example, Amplifier with power relay operated by front panel tact switch via microprocessor - not allowed Amplifier with power relay operated by data link (used or not) via microprocessor - allowed c) does the 7th edition define what "off" is? Eg apparatus does not function, apparatus consumes less than 15W, mains power is disconnected etc. Out of interest, how are BSI or IEC committees formed? Are members invited to join or do you apply?
