Hi All, After a few weeks of holiday rush, I managed to write my technical article for January.
And when is a wire, not just a wire?............. After a few month's of articles on measurement techniques, this month's Technical Tidbit article on www.dsmith.org is more along the lines of design and system reliability. The article is about the amazing property of a conductor to develop significant series voltage drop across its length, even from an ordinary logic signal. Many engineers and technicians already know that the inductive reactance of a conductor exceeds its resistance at most frequencies, but even logic signals can produce volts of drop across the inductance in a short wire. The article also contains an amusing personal experience having to do with this effect. Go to http://www.dsmith.org for the article. I hope everyone had a good holiday season.
