Doug You say "Domestic 3 meter..". I believe Class A devices are intended for industrial use only and not domestic. Anyway, as far as the FCC and the European EMC directive is concerned then a 3m test distance is acceptable. However, in the event of dispute then measurements at 30m take precedence. To correct for the shorter measurement distance the limit line should be raised by approximately 20dB for Class A devices. However, ensure that the test distance is greater than: (2D^2)/lambda Where D = maximum EUT dimension and lambda = shortest wavelength to be measured. The Japanese also accept a 3m measurement distance. However I believe that Taiwan insist on 10 and 30m measurements.

Importance: High What's the bottom line with Class A emissions testing in a 3 meter chamber in the US for emissions approval anywhere in the world? Does the FCC accept such testing for the US? What about for European CE marking under the EMC Directive? How about Taiwan? How about Japan? Been a while since I've had to deal with this issue. Any input here or offline will be appreciated.
