Caveat: I am not an expert on secure systems, just an user. "Digital" signatures are somewhat common for document control/ECO tracking systems; but these systems rely on client-server system, where one may access a known valid document, and new modified insertion of docs are controlled via a password that is embedded in the authorization block. (My employer uses a system based on that is based on HTML packets embedding encrypted blocks.)
A common digital signature system, frequently used by some Usenet posters, is based on PGP. I remember seeing several articles on this subject in Dr Dobbs, C++ User's Journal, and/or ACM within the previous ten years. In any case, nothing beats a nice little expedition to Google. luck, Brian -----Original Message----- From: hansm [ mailto:hans.mellb...@baclcorp.com] Sent: Monday, August 25, 2003 9:16 AM To: 'EMC-PSTC - forum' Subject: Digital signatures (was Software and Safety) On a slightly off-topic subject (but may be of interest to many) I am exploring digital signatures that are difficult to forge or copy or replicate without authorization. As an example, signing a test document or approving a test plan, all electronically. Are there any easy to use secure digital signature s/w that listers have experience with?
