Hello Richard The product is a demonstration fixture to be used by our distributors in the sales process and will not be sold to the general public....I should have been a little clearer when I said "Do some internal testing" The plan is to evaluate the product to IEC60065 and complete a CB test report form as part of a TCF. The confusion comes in as follows 1. If the external power supply has a CE and TUV GS Mark does the low voltage product require a CE Mark and DoC for the LVD? The responses I received have ranged from "not required on the end product but would be useful to avoid hassles" to " The product and power supply combo are considered to be mains connected so the complete unit must be CE Marked". Since this is not clearly defined in any EU document I could find I will err on the side of caution and require the DoC to reference the LVD and CE Mark the low voltage audio product. Simple enough as this is a self declaration in any case...... 2. A bigger concern and cost is whether it is prudent to pay the expense to get a CB certification for the product for use in Asia, i.e. China, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea etc.... I can complete a CB report for the CE mark TCF but I am wondering if a CB is a necessary investment for Asia. Will the above mentioned countries insist on the system getting the local approval Mark or is it sufficient for the power supply to have the correct local authority approvals? The easy way out is to just go for a CB cert but this is a low volume product and is cost sensitive..............Any thoughts??? Thanks to everyone for your opinions as they are very helpful. regards, John -----Original Message----- From: richhug...@aol.com [mailto:richhug...@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 09, 2003 8:43 AM To: Tyra, John; emc-p...@majordomo.ieee.org Subject: Re: CE Marking for low voltage products
John, Further to my earlier Email, and those from others, you need to consider how you are going to supply your product and any spare parts. As I mentioned earlier and as has been expanded upon by others, if you are going to supply the complete product in a single box then that will need to be CE marked. Under the LVD it is not mandatory to supply a DoC with each product (e.g. in each box), though you could do so if you wish. Of course, it may also be that the auxiliary speakers and power cubes that operate at ELV could get damaged and you may wish to supply these individually as spare parts. In this case, these items do not fall within the LVD and so they must not be CE marked in respect of the LVD. They do fall within the scope of the General Product Safety Directive, as mentioned previously. The level of testing you are suggesting {e.g. "do some internal testing to verify there is no fire hazard as a result of amplifier shorts etc"} would seem to fall short of that required by EN 60065. If you are not planning to use a Harmonised Standard then what is the yardstick you are planning to use to determine how safe your product is?
