You are invited to the Northeast Product Safety Society’s 16th annual membership recruitment dinner featuring keynote speaker Robert Straetz of the US Department of Commerce - Office of European Union and Regional Affairs. The dinner will be held on Wednesday, May 26th, at the Holiday Inn in Marlborough, MA. If you will be in the area on May 26th, please consider joining us for dinner and the opportunity to mingle with interesting people involved with product safety. Our keynote speaker is Robert Straetz of the US Department of Commerce - Office of European Union and Regional Affairs. He will discuss the recent changes in the European Union including the EU enlargement and it’s effects on business, CE marking and European product standards changes relating to the EMC, LVD, and Machinery Directives, and new European Directives such as the WEEE and RoHS Environmental Directives, the Energy Using Products (EUP) Directive, and In Vitro Diagnostic Medical Directive. Bob Straetz has worked in the Office of European Union and Regional Affairs since October 1988. Since 1994, Bob has covered European standards issues and has organized the CE mark program for the office. He has provided U.S. firms with information they need to get the CE mark to export their products to Europe. He has given about 30 talks around the country on the CE mark since 1996 (and about 5 talks on the euro since 1997). He recently co-developed with another office in the Commerce Department a CE mark website at http://www.export.gov/tic. Recently, he has added several EU environmental directives to his portfolio, including the Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and the Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (ROHS) directives.
