There is no requirement under the LVD or EMC directives for a date code to appear on the product. Under the Machinery Directive, the product must display the "year of construction" (clause 1.7.3 of annex 1) and the guidance notes associated with the directive (http://europa.eu.int/comm/enterprise/m chan_equipment/machinery/guide/content.htm ) make it clear than this must be in a form which clearly displays the information for the end user, not in the form of a date code.
