I specifically used 'hi-fi' and 'industrial', to make it quite clear (as
I thought) that no-one would consider my examples ambiguous.

The standard definition of professional equipment, that originated in
IEC 61000-3-2, is now being adopted in several other IEC standards. It
covers ALL professional equipment, including industrial PCs, and is not
significantly in disagreement with the 'not sold retail' criterion that
you indicated. In fact, my first proposal for the definition included
those words, but the non-English speakers didn't like the word 'retail'.

The good news is that nothing is compulsory.
The bad news is that everything is prohibited.
