Thanks John. Load-switching transients are a good rationale for doing transient testing on DC output leads regardless of length, but I'm not sure I'm out of the woods yet.
Wouldn't the same rationale apply to DC input leads, regardless of length? If so, how come the standard exempts them if the leads are less than 10m long? If my equipment's input shares a DC circuit with other loads, and they almost always do in our applications, then actually there is a higher likelihood of load-switching transients on the input than on the output! By the way, it was not my intention to start a large thread on the niceties of grammar, or to brag, but, in answer to Rich's question, I actually got 100% in my final year of high-school grammar (they gave out bonus points on tests), and I too am a fan of the comma's ability to help with the understanding of long, complex sentences, to control cadence, to provide breathing space, to slow the eager rush of our eyes to the next word if not to stop it altogether, as the comma grips us like a bird grips a worm, an eagle grips a fish, or this drivel grips your lunch, and to bring clarity to a world of long-winded, convoluted, obfuscationary, self-important verbiage, that clutters our mind like...Oh, never mind.
