THANK YOU!

Your answer greatly clarifies this subject for me. Apparently, both of
my sources had some truth to them; but neither provided the whole
picture.

Chris Maxwell

In this case,

o Your agent in Japan (usually, the importer) will need to notify
to METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry).

o You, or your agent in Japan, will need to get the third-party
certification from one of the approved test agencies, such as
JQA, JET, TUV Rheinland Japan, UL Inc., etc.

o You, or your agent in Japan, will need to hold the test records
    for each of the product.

o The name of the agent who notified himself to METI will be needed
to be marked on the product.

Maybe it is easier to purchase power supply units which are aleady
PS-E marked under the manufacturer's own responsibility.

Please also note that the power cord may also need to be PS-E marked
if it is of a detachable one.

Tom
