CTIA is also involved in a collaborative effort with IEEE, a prominent technical-standard setting organization, to develop new industry-wide standards for battery design and performance. Authorized laboratories will test batteries to these standards for the purpose of certifying compliance. The new standard, which will build on the IEEE LIVIUMÔ standard for notebook computer batteries, will set uniform criteria for the design, production, and evaluation of batteries. It will aim to eliminate cell failure when mobile phone batteries are used as intended and to minimize failure under abusive operating conditions. - This message is from the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society emc-pstc discussion list.
